sumo wrestlers & humidifiers

a blog a day? WHAT??

don't get excited, this isn't customary, i just have much to say this happy, happy new year. like how jack has a terrible cold and we had to take him to the doctor this morning, but no worries he is OK its just his poor little nose is so congested he couldn't really sleep at all last night because he couldn't breathe and the poor little trooper just wasn't comfortable. we had to stand in the bathroom with the shower on to steam out his sinus'.. which we won't have to do anymore because we bought a humidifier today and luckily his cold is just a virus and not bacterial-- so it's not in his chest or lungs-- and i can happily report he's finally sound asleep and i think we'll be alright.

on a brighter note, he was weighed today and before i tell you how much he weighed in as, let me remind you that one month ago (december 4, to be exact) he weighed 10lbs 12oz. A whopping 3lb gain in his first three weeks! OK, so maybe I should be a better guesser by now, but I was sure he was around 12lbs by now, I mean, he's getting big.
12lbs? oh no. try 14lbs 3oz! this child is HUGE!! he's huge. he's going to be a sumo wrestler. he is pretty freaking adorable though. and compared to like, 3 year olds, he's still tiny.

here's some pretty interesting news:
I have to go back to work january 28. boo.
luckily, we won't have to arrange for daycare.
this eases my mind considerably, and now i'm not so freakin' freaked out about going back to work. i'm just going to start out working 3 days a week, little piddly 5.5 hour shifts, and Garrett will work shorter morning shifts those days so we'll still be home together in the evening. it's pretty much perfect, Garrett is brilliant and I'm sooo happy about our little plan. also, i'm happy to announce i successfully avoided the holiday season at starbucks and did not and will not have to steam any eggnog this year! hooray! (next time you find yourself ordering an eggnog latte, think to yourself how hard it must be to steam that thick gooey concoction to a perfect latte. think about that, and then appreciate how good your barista made it. and then tip her. or him.)

anyways. enough about lattes.

ooh i forgot to mention we introduced jack to his first binky last week! its marvelous because when he's very tired but can't quite calm down enough to fall asleep, his desire to suck and that binky mesh perfectly and it's like, instant sleep.

due to lack of sleep last night, jack and i are going to take a nap. hopefully this humidifier will do wonderful things for his sinuses.

For as long and skinny (bordering on scrawny) he was when he is born, he is practically roly-poly. Maybe he's had a little too much eggnog!

Love, Mom
